YOUR PRACTICE TASK

The Absent-Party Protocol

If another decision participant is absent, separate what the present person knows from what remains to hear from that participant; ask how they want the decision conversation handled. If no absent participant is named, record that as unknown rather than inventing one.

After the conversation: Did you avoid speaking for an absent person, preserve the present person's view, and leave room for the people involved to decide how to continue?

TAKE IT INTO YOUR WORK

Prepare a question for your next call.

01 / PREPARE

Choose the moment.

Use the open call map to write the question you want to ask and what you need to learn from the answer.

02 / PRACTISE

Say it naturally.

Try the question aloud, or write it in your own voice. Work through the sample before using it in a real conversation.

03 / RETURN

Review the response.

After the call, note what the person said, what changed your understanding and what you would do differently.
