VIVID / Real Estate Investors / Free practice
One owner is ready. Two people must decide.
Find what is still unresolved, respond to the owner’s concerns and prepare a useful next conversation with both decision-makers.
Two or three decisions. No account needed. Leave with a conversation card you can edit and keep.
“I need to talk with my wife before deciding.”
Fictional teaching example. People, dialogue and product details are invented for practice.
Your role: You are an investor discussing a possible purchase with a property owner.
What you know going in
- No price or move date has been agreed.
- The investor may discuss possible timing, but no flexible date, backup housing or contract term is promised by this scenario.

A worked conversation
Owner
I need to talk with my wife before deciding.
Investor
How are you feeling about the move yourself?
Owner
I want it settled, but I don’t want us rushing into nowhere to live. She’s handling the apartment.
Investor
What would both of you need to know before a date would make sense?
Absent-Party Protocol: discover the shared decision and the missing information, rather than treating authority as a fifth objection category.
Owner
Whether the apartment is confirmed, and a backup if it isn’t.
Investor
Then an accurate next step is to review those together. Is price also still part of what you’re comparing?
Owner
Yes. The move matters, but we haven’t agreed on price.
Investor
So the open comparison is price, a confirmed next place, a backup and a workable date. What have I missed?
Recap preserves all criteria, including unresolved financial ones. It does not turn context into a concession.
Owner
That’s right. We can both talk tomorrow after she checks the apartment.
Investor
Let’s use that conversation to hear both of your priorities and see which options are actually workable.
This prepares an informed joint conversation and leaves the next step with both owners; no offer term or agreement is implied.
A fresh situation
Try the idea somewhere new
A different owner says, “My brother and I inherited the house. I’m ready to sell, but he handles the repair estimates.” You have not spoken to the brother or seen the estimates.
What should you prepare next?
Task-specific feedback; no legal conclusion, negotiation result or universal sales proficiency claim.
Make it yours
Practise the words before the call
Say your next question aloud once. Listen for whether it invites the owner to correct you. Then compare it with the worked example.
Read silently or say it aloud. This page does not record you. Keep real client names and private details out of your practice notes.

- Chapter 13Multi-Stakeholder Dynamics: ask who contributes and what information they hold
This case practices making the other participant and their information visible in a shared decision. It does not teach a complete hidden-decision-maker diagnostic or infer authority from a spouse label.
- Chapter 21The Recap Instrument: accurate mirror recap (Target 1)
The exercise reflects the owner’s stated timing and open criteria so they can correct the record. This is the mirror recap only; it does not teach the book’s more interpretive meaning or identity recap targets.
- Chapter 27Participant preparation when another decision-maker is named (limited Chapter 27 connection)
The case prepares a joint conversation after a real participant and missing information are named. It does not test the full absent-party diagnostic, classify an unseen participant or teach persuasion through a proxy.
- Chapter 32Post-Conversation Protocol
After the conversation, review the specific moment where you distinguished one owner’s view from the shared decision and name a next practice adjustment.
